Start where they're stuck

Your student doesn't have to love writing.

They need a clear next step.

Maybe the prompt doesn't make sense. Maybe the ideas are there but the structure isn't. Maybe the blank page itself is the problem.

We figure out what's getting in the way, make the problem smaller, and work forward from there.

Help for the paper in front of you. Skills for the next one.

The point isn't just to improve this paper. It's to help the student better understand the writing process, so the next paper gets easier.

01

Essay Coaching

Start with a prompt, an outline, or a rough draft. We'll find the argument, build a structure, and work through the paper one problem at a time.

02

Writing Coaching

For students who need more than a one-paper rescue. We work on the habits behind stronger writing: finding the point, organizing ideas, revising clearly, and getting started with less agony.

03

Grammar, Citations & Polish

Help with grammar, punctuation, and citations, explained clearly and applied directly to the student's own writing.

“Very concise with his wording. Clear in his advice.”
Robert was very helpful in his feedback. Very concise with his wording, clear in his advice, and also helped point out some things that were done right, which I feel helped me gain better understanding of what I should be doing.
Former tutoring student

The teacher made the difference.

I was the kind of student who could do well in one class and completely check out in another. The material wasn't always that different. The teacher was.

The good ones personalized their approach to my learning style and challenges. They also found a way to make the material feel relevant to me.

Those teachers had a profound impact on my tutoring philosophy. My goal is to find out where my students are getting stuck, understand how they learn best, and adjust my approach until the material starts to make sense.

“Sometimes a student doesn't need another explanation. They need a different one.”

A writer who teaches writing

Most of my adult life has involved words.

After graduating from the University of Washington with an English degree, I worked professionally as a copywriter and editor. For the past six years, I've tutored students from middle school through graduate-level coursework. I've also written and published my own book.

I write songs too. That doesn't have much to do with MLA formatting, but it has quite a lot to do with finding the right words.

I don't teach students to write like me. I help them get better at writing like themselves.

Before we get started.

What ages and levels do you work with?

I work with students from middle school through graduate-level coursework. The work can range from basic essay structure and grammar to research papers, source integration, revision, and advanced academic writing.

Do you offer in-person and virtual tutoring?

Yes. I offer in-person tutoring in Palm Coast, Florida, as well as virtual tutoring.

What does tutoring cost?

Standard tutoring sessions are $50 per hour.

Can we start with a paper that's already in progress?

Absolutely. Bring the prompt, the draft, the teacher's comments, or the half-finished outline. We can start wherever the student actually is.

Will you write or rewrite the paper for the student?

No. I can explain, coach, model, question, and help improve a draft. The thinking and final work should still belong to the student.

Show me the assignment.

Tell me what your student is working on and where they're getting stuck. I'll let you know if I think I'm the right person to help.
